This 90-minute webinar will address the importance of diversity and inclusion in modern U.S. society. The speaker will discuss how to develop cultural sensitivity and competency with patients and team members, including those with limited English proficiency, with HIPAA concerns. Strategies to promote a more inclusive working environment also will be reviewed.

Cathy Hung, DDS

Cathy Hung, DDS, is a native of Taipei, Taiwan. She briefly lived in Singapore before traveling to the United States on a student visa. She earned a DDS from Columbia University and received her OMS training from Lincoln in the Bronx, N.Y. She is an AAOMS Fellow and a solo practice owner in New Jersey. Having gone through a long journey learning the English language, moving across the United States and learning about its culture, her personal experiences gave her the inspiration to write her first book, Pulling Wisdom: Filling the Gaps in Cross-Cultural Communication for Healthcare Providers, now listed in the ADA Bookstore as a practice management tool. She is working on her second book, Behind Her Scalpel: Practical Guide to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Stories by Female Surgeons. Dr. Hung is a member of the 2019-20 class of the ADA Institute for Diversity in Leadership. She has given numerous talks on diversity and inclusion to local dental societies and state associations. Last year, she was recognized by Benco Dental’s Incisal Edge magazine as a Lucy Hobbs Project “Woman Who Inspires.” Dr. Hung also is a certified professional life coach and operates Pulling Wisdom Coaching and Workshops, LLC, helping minorities and female professionals tackle challenges and excel in the professional world.
