Dental Insurance: Top Three Trends in 2021 that Impact Your Income* - On Demand Access

The private insurance industry as well as federal and state governing bodies are responsible for financing most healthcare treatment in the United States. These entities are constantly evolving in regard to budgets, perceived treatment necessity, legislative initiatives and market share. This 90-minute webinar – specific to OMSs, managers as well as coding and billing staff – will focus primarily on private insurance industry efforts to reduce their cost of care, attempts to add or remove OS procedures and alter overall methodology to compensate OMSs for treatment. It will cover new companies and products that have the potential to disrupt traditional markets. An overview of recent network participating contract language will be discussed along with what steps can be taken to remedy (if applicable). A 20-minute question-and-answer period at the end will facilitate discussion among the participants. The webinar also will include a summary of material industry changes that have occurred in the past 12-18 months and/or are pending with a breakdown of resulting effects for the OMS community.

  1. Describe how changes in the industry that finances the delivery of healthcare may impact revenue, new patient growth, service approach and overall business strategy of a practice.

Patrick O’Rourke began his career in operations management at a Florida dental and vision insurance company, which after several acquisitions and mergers is now MetLife. He spent five years at Humana in Atlanta, Ga., selling in the large-group segment (100-plus employees). In addition to several awards, he has earned professional certifications that include Dental Benefit Associate; Disability Insurance Associate; Professional, Health Insurance Advanced Studies; HIPAA/HITECH; and Medicare; and he maintains an active health/life insurance license in multiple states. Understanding the nuances involved with all aspects of risk management helped business partners rely on his expertise to guide client recommendations. He is an insurance insider who has built dental networks, worked in operations management, designed dental plans and opened markets. In 2013, he founded Practice Quotient, a firm that specializes in dental insurance PPO network contract analytics and reimbursement guidance serving the dental provider community. He speaks across the country, educating doctors on how managed care participation impacts up to 50 percent of practice revenue, the importance of diligent contract management and how to develop criteria specific to patient acquisition strategy to choose the best carrier business partners.
