ABOMS – Learn How to Become Board-certified

The comprehensive ABOMS certification process covers the biological sciences and clinical practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery. This 60-minute webinar will review the certification process in oral and maxillofacial surgery that consists of two examinations: Qualifying Examination (QE) and Oral Certifying Examination (OCE). The QE is a computer-based examination with 300 questions covering 10 subject areas. Successful completion of the QE makes a candidate eligible to apply for the OCE, an oral examination designed to test a candidate’s knowledge and judgment in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The oral examination consists of three sections with four 12-minute cases. Applications for both examinations are open each summer before closing in September.

Maintain Diplomate status following certification.

Deepak Kademani, DMD, MD, FACS

Deepak Kademani, DMD, MD, FACS, earned his dental and medical degrees – and completed surgical residency – at the University of Pennsylvania. This was followed by a fellowship in head and neck surgery. Dr. Kademani is board certified by ABOMS and has a Certificate of Added Qualification in Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery.

After training, Dr. Kademani was an associate professor in the Department of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. In 2008, he joined the faculty as an Associate Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Kademani is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American College of Surgeons and the American Head and Neck Society. He has authored hundreds of books and publications, and delivered lectures internationally on a variety of topics, including head and neck pathology, oral cancer and reconstructive head and neck surgery.

Dr. Kademani is a past president of the Minnesota Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He has served as member and chair on a number of AAOMS committees. Dr. Kademani received the AAOMS Faculty Education Development Award (FEDA) in 2004 and the AAOMS Committee Person of the Year Award in 2020.

Dr. Kademani was on the Examination Committee for ABOMS and is currently an ABOMS Director.

Adrianna Lagunas

Adrianna Lagunas serves as Vice President of Credentialing Programs and Operations at ABOMS. Ms. Lagunas developed the recent Qualifying Examination Fast Track application for senior residents, successfully transitioned the OCE to its new testing location in Raleigh, N.C., and is implementing the Certificate of Added Qualification in Pediatric Craniomaxillofacial Surgery program. She has extensive knowledge in Board management and test development that has contributed to the success at ABOMS for over a decade.
