Airway Management for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Management of a patient’s airway can be complex. Pathology, trauma or comorbid factors can make routine intubation challenging. An understanding of airway anatomy and surgical airway techniques are paramount for safe treatment of these patients. This course will give an overview of anatomy and surgical techniques for airway access and discuss preoperative evaluation of patients and postoperative complications.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  1. Distinguish the different techniques for airway management and how pathology, trauma or comorbid factors can affect these choices.
  2. Evaluate a patient and determine which airway management technique is appropriate.
  3. Describe the airway anatomy and surgical airway techniques.
  4. Discuss the potential risks and benefits of surgical airways.
