Allogenic Bone Grafts for Dental Implants: Science and Techniques

Allogenic bone grafting has become a reliable and well-established method for reconstructing the maxilla and mandible for dental implant placement– eliminating the morbidity associated with donor sites. This 60-minute webinar will examine the science of dental osseointegration and use the allogenic bone grafts for dental implants. The presentation will include a review of surgical management and techniques aimed at maximizing patient outcomes. Participants will gain practical knowledge to navigate complex cases.

James C. Melville, DDS, FACS

James C. Melville, DDS, FACS, is a Professor in the Bernard and Gloria Pepper Katz Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). He specializes in oral, head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgery. He earned his DDS from University of Michigan and completed a genearl practice residency at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency and fellowships in oncology and microvascular reconstruction at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Melville was appointed oral and maxillofacial surgery internship director at UTHealth in 2017 and has received several honors from AAOMS, including the Faculty Educator Development Award in 2019 and the Clinical Research Award in 2023. He served as the President of the Oral and Maxillofacial Section of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR)/International Association of Dental Research and was a scientific committee member for the International Academy of Oral Oncology conference. He is a Diplomate and examiner of ABOMS. Dr. Melville has lectured at more than 20 academic institutions, authored over 80 peer-reviewed articles, contributed to 35 textbook chapters and written five textbooks. He serves as a peer reviewer for multiple leading journals.
