An Update on Botulinum Toxin Therapy
Botulinum toxin therapy has evolved from a cosmetic adjunct to a practical esthetic tool within oral and maxillofacial surgery. This 60-minute live webinar provides a current update on the science, indications, technique refinements, complication management and regulatory considerations surrounding botulinum toxin use in OMS practice. The session will focus on evidence-based applications for facial esthetics, temporomandibular disorders, bruxism, masseter hypertrophy, facial pain syndromes and perioperative adjunctive uses. Participants will review anatomy-driven injection strategies, dosing best practices, emerging literature and risk mitigation principles to optimize outcomes while protecting patient safety and practice compliance.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Review the pharmacology and mechanism of action of botulinum toxin relevant to esthetic tool within oral and maxillofacial surgery.
- Identify current evidence-based indications and dosing strategies for botulinum toxin in facial cosmetic surgery, TMD management, bruxism and masseter hypertrophy.
- Apply anatomy-driven injection techniques to enhance safety, precision and esthetic outcomes while minimizing complications.
- Recognize and manage complications and regulatory considerations, including off-label use, documentation standards and risk mitigation in OMS practice.
