Speakers from multiple specialties will provide diverse viewpoints on current concepts in this Anesthesia Update. The program will discuss everyday challenges faced by OMSs in an office anesthesia practice and introduce case-based scenarios and how to appropriately manage them.

Dr. Cornelius received his DDS degree from Northwestern University, his MBA degree from the University of Utah, and his MPH degree from The University of Pittsburgh. After practicing general dentistry for 15 years, Dr. Cornelius completed a three-year residency in anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh. He is a Fellow of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology and a Diplomat of both the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. Dr. Cornelius is the Medical Officer and head anesthesiologist for The Cleveland Children’s Surgery Center and is currently serving as the President-Elect of the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists. Meghan Valach, MD

Dr. Meghan Valach MD is the Anesthesiologist-in-Chief for Mobile Anesthesiologists in Chicago, IL. She completed a residency in the department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at The Johns Hopkins University in 2007. Dr. Valach then joined the faculty at Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she coordinated the OR schedule and was the first anesthesia medical director of the Preoperative Assessment Clinic. For the last 11 years, Dr. Valach has done all ambulatory anesthesia, mostly in the office-based setting with Mobile Anesthesiologists where she has served as the Medical Director and is now Anesthesiologist-in-Chief of the practice. As the Anesthesiologist-in-Chief for Mobile Anesthesiologists, it is her mission to improve patient access to safe, cost-effective anesthesia care outside the hospital for a wide variety of surgeries and procedures. Dr. Valach currently serves as the Vice-Chair for the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia Office-Based Anesthesia Committee and the Vice-Chair for the American Society of Anesthesiologists Committee on Ambulatory Surgical Care.

Edward C. Adlesic, DMD, MS

Dr. Edward C. Adlesic received his dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 1980 and then completed an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1984.
He returned to Pittsburgh and established a private practice in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery that he maintained from 1984 to 2015. During that time, he served as Chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital for 18 years and served in the United States Army Reserves from 1988 to 1998 being activated for Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
In 2015, he accepted a faculty position at the University of Pittsburgh as an Assistant Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a dual appointment in the Department of Dental Anesthesiology which he currently maintains. Dr. Adlesic is a Fellow in AAOMS and is the Chair of the Committee on Anesthesia. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and was on the Oral Examination Committee of ABOMS.
Dr. Adlesic is a Fellow in the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology and a Diplomate of the National Board of Dental Anesthesiology. He is a past Director and the current President Elect of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.
Dr Adlesic is a frequent lecturer at AAOMS and ADSA regional and national.

I currently serve as a Volunteer Assistant Professor and teach a Medicine/Anesthesia Course and a Surgical Anatomy Course for the OMS residents at the University of Cincinnati. I also serve as a member of the AAOMS Committee on Anesthesia.

Jeffrey D. Schultz DDS, MMS was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. He received his undergraduate education from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA, followed by a Master of Medical Science Degree in Anesthesia at the Emory University School of Medicine. He was employed as a Physician Assistant Anesthetist in the Department of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia at Emory University Hospital. Dr. Schultz entered the Emory University School of Dentistry where he was an Emily Woodruff Scholar, graduating as a member of the last class of the School of Dentistry in 1988. Dr. Schultz then continued his post-graduate advanced dental education at Emory University and Affiliated Hospitals, completing his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1992.
Dr. Schultz has been in private practice in the Newnan, Peachtree City and Fayetteville Georgia areas since 1996. In 2020 Dr. Schultz retired after 20 years of service from his position as Adjunct Associate Professor of Surgery at the Emory University School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He is a Life Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Fellow of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. He is a member of the ADA, GDA, Georgia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Southeastern Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He was elected to the national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Dr. Schultz has served as President of the Georgia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and continues to serve as a Georgia delegate in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons House of Delegates. He has served as an AAOMS Southeastern District Caucus Secretary and Chair and additionally has been appointed to numerous important AAOMS committees including the Committee on Anesthesia, Commission on Professional Conduct (Chair 2021-22), CCEPD and HOD Reference Committees. He has served on the Georgia Dental Association Governmental Affairs Committee and was appointed to the Georgia Board of Dentistry by Governor Kemp in 2022.

Phero is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon whose clinical practice focuses on corrective jaw surgery, facial trauma and reconstruction, temporomandibular joint surgery and the management of benign head and neck pathology.
