- Registration Closed
The popular AAOMS Beyond the Basics Coding online workshop features comprehensive content to address coding guidance for the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. In addition to existing coding assistance for anesthesia services, bone grafting, fractures, extractions and implants, this course offers insights into coding dentoalveolar procedures such as surgical exposure, surgical uprighting, soft-tissue procedures, I&Ds, cleft palate/lip procedures, wound debridement and repairs. This course also includes instruction on the E/M coding and documentation changes that took effect in 2021 and 2023. Participants must have a basic understanding of CDT, CPT and ICD-10-CM in order to comprehend the content in this course. Basic coding knowledge or completion of the AAOMS Basic Coding for OMS and ICD-10-CM for OMS online courses is highly recommended before participating in this course.
Learning Objectives:
- Demonstrate compliance through appropriate documentation (e.g., use of E/M guidelines) for services provided.
- Review proper diagnosing principles of neoplasms, sequelae and application of 7th characters.
- Practice following guidelines for coding anesthesia, applying associated modifiers and other coding trends.
- Analyze clinical case studies to code OMS-specific procedures, such as fractures, TMJ and biopsies.
- Describe the relationship of coding to third-party reimbursement.
This course consists of multiple units. To complete each unit, you will need your printed course manual and coding books (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Level II and CDT).
Completion of this course requires current coding books. AAOMS members can purchase coding books through AAOMS Advantage Partner Optum. Members using promo code AAOMSMBR will receive a 20 percent discount off the books. CDT coding books also can be purchased from ADA.org.
