This session aims to empower OMS professionals with the knowledge needed to implement allogenic maxillofacial reconstruction. It will cover techniques to level the playing field in challenging clinical scenarios, making difficult cases more manageable. The goal is to inspire OMSs to take on cases they might have previously avoided. 

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  1. Explain the fundamental principles of next generation alloplastic materials. 
  2. Utilize covered principles and materials to help in facial reconstructive surgery in children and adults.
  3. Integrate these methods into daily office- or hospital-based practice.

Dr. Marschall is an assistant professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Iowa. He earned his dental (DMD) and medical (MD) degrees from the University of Louisville where he completed an internship in general surgery and residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in pediatric cleft and craniomaxillofacial surgery at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Florida. In addition, Dr. Marschall completed a research fellowship in tissue engineering at the University of Zurich Hospital in Switzerland.

Mark A. Miller, DMD, MD, FACS is a fellowship-trained pediatric craniomaxillofacial surgeon and Associate Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Neurosurgery and Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina where he serves as the Residency Program Director for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and the Associate Dean of Hospital Affairs at the James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine. He is board-certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery and holds a certificate of added qualifications in pediatric craniomaxillofacial surgery from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Miller graduated with his medical (M.D.) degree from the University Of Florida College Of Medicine and his dental degree (D.M.D.) from the University of Kentucky. He completed an internship in general surgery and residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Florida, College of Medicine – Jacksonville. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in pediatric craniomaxillofacial surgery at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Florida.

Dr. Miller's practice emphasis is in pediatric craniofacial surgery, reconstructive facial surgery, neuroplastic reconstructive surgery, orthognathic surgery, repair of cleft lip and palate, and complex craniofacial conditions. He has dedicated his professional life to the care of individuals with facial differences.
