This session will discuss the purpose, methods and implementation of extending co-ownership in a practice to an associate OMS. It will describe what it means to be a partner and cover the valuation, compensation and legal factors involved in developing the buy-in and payout structure.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:


  1. Recognize what attributes and factors form the basis of offering partnership to an associate OMS.
  2. Discuss the elements of practice value in a buy-in, as well as key compensation, governance and operational rights and duties that form the core of a partnership.
  3. Explain what buy-in rights and duties must be observed when an owner departs the practice, including valuation components, and critical post-departure restrictions on competitive practice.
