The AAOMS Coding Certificate Program (CCP) consists of three courses: Basic Coding for OMS, Beyond the Basics Coding for OMS and OMS Billing. The CCP Bundle allows participants to register for all three online courses in a single transaction.
The CCP bundle offers 25 CE hours and is available to AAOMS fellows/members, their professional staff and OMS residents. Registrants will have six months to complete the online course(s).
Note: Participants will need 2025 CDT, CPT and ICD-10-CM coding manuals to complete the Basic Coding for OMS and Beyond the Basics Coding for OMS courses. Coding manuals are not required for the OMS Billing course.

The online Basic Coding for OMS is Level I of the Coding Certificate Program (CCP). This online course is designed especially for OMSs and professional staff who have never attended a coding workshop and have had little or no formal training in procedural and diagnostic coding. It also is designed for the more seasoned professional looking for a comprehensive refresher of the basics. The course will teach the core elements of coding and provide an effective understanding of the CDT, CPT and ICD-10-CM coding manuals and systems. Participants will have the opportunity to test and reinforce their knowledge through practice exercises and unit quizzes. The course proceeds at a slow, comfortable pace – dedicating sufficient time to each topic. Code: CB25

Learning Objectives:
- Explain the purpose of coding and its relationship to reimbursement.
- Describe ICD-10-CM, CPT, and CDT coding conventions and basic principles.
- Discuss basic claim submission processes including coordination of benefits, predetermination, preauthorization, electronic claims submission and more.
Completion of this course requires current ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Level II, and CDT coding books.
The video will provide verbal explanation of the course manual, the opportunity to complete practice problems, and non-graded quizzes to evaluate your knowledge retention.

Terri Bradley is a certified coding professional and practice management consultant with over 30 years of experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery. She founded Terri Bradley Consulting 15 years ago and subsequently started OMS Billing Solutions. Most recently she co-founded OMS Powerhouse Consulting, which has clients nationwide, and she works with surgeons and their staff on billing and coding, practice management and systems implementation. Ms. Bradley has been published in the Dr. Raymond Fonseca Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery textbook, Dentistry IQ, and the 2017-2021 editions of the CDT Coding Companion, and she co-authored Dictations and Coding in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Additionally, she is a member of AAPC and is one of the founding members of the JAWS Society (now known as the Society of OMS Administrators).

The online Beyond the Basics Coding for OMS is Level II of the Coding Certificate Program (CCP). The AAOMS Beyond the Basics Coding for OMS online course provides the same content as the in-person Beyond the Basics Coding Workshop. It is an intermediate-level course that concentrates on topics based on the AAOMS Parameters of Care, OMS-specific procedural coding for medical and dental, coding complications and medical record documentation. This course features comprehensive content to address coding guidance for the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. In addition to existing coding assistance for anesthesia services, bone grafting, fractures, extractions and implants, this course offers insights into coding dentoalveolar procedures such as surgical exposure and uprighting, soft-tissue procedures, incision and drainage, cleft palate/lip procedures, wound debridement and repairs. This course also delves into ICD-10-CM coding principles relating to neoplasms, sequelae, complications and Z codes. Attendees will learn 2025 CDT coding updates for nerve dissection, partial extractions for implant placement and administration of neuromodulators and dermal fillers along with billing guidance on the expanded Medicare dental benefit as well as billing for facility-based dental services. Additionally, instruction is provided on E/M coding and documentation guidelines. Participants must have a basic understanding of CDT, CPT and ICD-10-CM in order to comprehend the content in this course. - Review healthcare fraud and abuse issues addressed by federal and state laws and their impact on offering discounts.
- Demonstrate adherence to standards for appropriate coding and implementation of compliance plans that include conducting compliance audits.
- Explain various methods for setting office fees, including annual percentage increases, cost-based fees, national percentiles and percentage increases over Medicare.
- Describe types of managed care organizations – including HMO, PPO and POS plans – and basic elements of MCO contracts.
- Discuss basic elements of commercial and government-sponsored health insurance plans, including different reimbursement methodologies.
- Apply Medicare-related policies, such as the National Provider Identifier, provider enrollment, accepting assignment, participation vs. nonparticipation vs. opting out, mandatory claims submission, timeframes for claims filing, Medicare Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) and more.

A certified dental assistant and certified professional coder, Dilaine Gloege founded Tidewater Dental Consulting where she educates dental teams on proper coding and billing practices through her speaking, writing and consulting. She has built a reputation for expertise in coding and insurance over her 37-year career in dentistry, including nearly seven years working with Practice Booster founder Dr. Charles Blair.
