Conventional Le Fort vs. Distraction in Cleft Patients

Correcting maxillary hypoplasia in patients with cleft-related deformities can be one of the more demanding challenges in orthognathic surgery. This 60-minute live webinar will focus on real-world cases and supporting research, highlighting the factors that can complicate planning and execution, from scar tissue and limited bone to nasal and dental/orthodontic considerations.

This interactive presentation will give a side-by-side look at techniques and outcomes using a traditional approach compared with midface distraction. The session is designed to spark practical discussion and invite audience input on the decision points and refinements that can help improve outcomes for these groups of patients.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss the challenges in performing large Le Fort advancement in cleft and syndromic patients.
  2. Provide a framework for deciding if and when to apply distraction osteogenesis to achieve a predictable result.
  3. Familiarize the various methods of manipulating current distractors to fit this heterogenous population.
