This session describes eleven categories of presentations of medical emergencies in the OMS office with a focus on anesthesia emergencies. It will cover types of emergencies and their appropriate responses and how to successfully design a simulation curriculum aimed at coordinated team response.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Describe the various causes of loss of breath sounds during sedation and how to manage and support the airway while identifying the cause.
- Explain causes of loss of consciousness in the OMS office and responses.
- Demonstrate how to set up high-fidelity emergency training scenarios in the operatory or simulation center.

Dr. Govind completed his dentistry and public health training at Harvard's Schools of Dental Medicine and Public Health, respectively. He went on to complete oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at UCSF, followed by an Advanced Craniomaxillofacial and Trauma Surgery fellowship at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, OR. He has been the Residency Program Director at Highland General Hospital in Oakland, CA since 2020. He has focused on quality improvement in clinical, research, and educational components of the residency program and has published on the topics of facial trauma, surgical education, temporomandibular disorders, and anesthesia. In his free time, he enjoys writing and recording music, cooking, and spending time with his family.
