Mock drills help prepare the team and the office for unexpected and unusual emergencies. This session will provide practical tips on how to incorporate a routine for mock drills into the busy everyday practice. 

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  1. Develop routine emergency drills in the OMS office. 
  2. Construct a schedule and different emergency scenarios in the office.  
  3. Explain how to get buy-in from the entire team to participate in office mock drills.

Dr. Phero is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon whose clinical practice focuses on corrective jaw surgery, facial trauma and reconstruction, temporomandibular joint surgery and the management of benign head and neck pathology.
He has been active in academic education, research, and administrative activities since joining the UC Surgery Department in 2019.
Dr. Phero has a passion for and is active at UC and nationally in team simulation training for evaluation and management of medical emergencies. He is currently on the board of the directors for the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology and is the current president of the Ohio Dental Society of Anesthesiology.

Deepak Krishnan, DDS, BDS, FACS, is an associate professor of surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where he is the Residency Program Director of Advanced Training Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is also the Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Krishnan is an examiner and director of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) and serves as the organization's representative on both the AAOMS Committee on Education and Training and the ADA Residency Review Committee OMS.
