A brief overview of the indications for coronectomy of the impacted third mandibular molar will be presented. The radiographic findings of a potential close relationship between the root(s) of the impacted third molar and the mandibular canal will be discussed. In addition, the preferred surgical procedure of coronectomy and its potential complications will be described, and long-term possible complications will be addressed.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Describe the indication to opt for coronectomy instead of removal of the impacted third mandibular molar.
- List the radiographic findings that suggest a close relationship between the root(s) of the impacted third mandibular molar and the mandibular canal.
