The Women's SIG created a five-year education plan when it met at the 2022 Annual Meeting. Mentoring and sponsoring women OMSs was its top priority. This session will focus on the differences between mentoring and sponsoring, as well as how to find the right mentor for women OMSs and how they can help career/practice development. Expert speakers will cover academics, private practice and research.

- Recognize how to network and develop relationships to grow clinical practice.

Michele S. Bergen, DMD, MD, FACS‘s background in dentistry goes back 3 generations to her great grandfather in Germany. The daughter of 2 prosthodontists, she grew up in a home office, surrounded by discussions of teeth and treatment plans. She even began extracting teeth in the girls bathroom in elementary school.
Born in New York City, she grew up in West Orange, New Jersey. Dr. Bergen earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Rutgers College in three years. While at Rutgers she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She then went to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and received her Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree in 1998. Dr. Bergen continued at UMDNJ in a six-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. As part of her training, she received her Doctor of Medicine degree in 2001 and completed a 1 year General Surgery Internship. She completed her Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency in 2004.
In 2012, Dr. Michele Bergen, was inducted as a fellow in the prestigious American College of Surgeons (FACS). In 2020, Dr. Bergen was elected to the board of the Connecticut Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. She is also a fellow of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ABOMS) as well as the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology (NDBA). She is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ACOMS), International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI), and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. Dr. Michele Bergen is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), Connecticut State Dental Association, and the Greenwich Dental Society.
Dr. Michele Bergen is licensed in dentistry, medicine and dental anesthesia in both Connecticut and New York. She is an Attending Surgeon at Greenwich Hospital, New York Presbyterian Hospital. She is actively involved in dental implant education. She was an Associate Professor at NYU in the Department of Periodontics and Implant Dentistry for 5 years, and is now Associate Professor at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Robin Gallardi, DDS, MS, FRCDC

Dr. Gallardi is a native Canadian graduating as the Gold Medalist from both a Cellular and Molecular Biology and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario. She happily practiced dentistry as the owner of the Dental Arts Centre in London Ontario for several years but always knew that surgery was her first love. Upon completing an Oral Surgery Fellowship at Montefiore Medical Centre in NY she returned to Canada to complete a Masters in Dentistry and her postgraduate training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Anesthesia. She received the Ron Warren Award for her research, which has been presented at both Canadian and American meetings. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Gallardi is the secretary/treasurer of the Illinois Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a board member of the Membership committee of AAOMS and Subcommittee of Committee on Anesthesia of AAOMS. Dr. Gallardi is currently the owner of the Face2Face Maxillofacial Surgery Centre in Chicago Illinois.
