Two oral surgeons – having left the U.S. Navy – purchased and built sole-ownership practices: one on the East Coast, one on the West Coast. This lecture reviews the trials and tribulations, mistakes and victories regarding all aspects of OMS practice ownership over the last five years.

T. Matthew Jacks, DDS, FACS

Dr. Jacks is currently in private practice performing full-scope OMS while performing facial trauma and reconstructive surgery at PeaceHealth Medical Center. Having spent two decades in the US Navy, he served as Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Walter Reed Military Medical Center, Chief of Surgery at the US Naval Hospital in Sicily Italy, and the Surgical Liaison to NATO during the Libyan Campaign. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he surgically reconstructed over 100 wounded warriors from Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns. He served eight years as a board examiner for ABOMS, is a member of the OMSNIC Advisory Committee and has published, lectured, and served on several regional, national, and international committees. Dr. Jacks has been married to his lovely bride, Heather, since they were both 18-years-old, has four adult tax-paying children, and four dogs. His hobbies include whatever his wife tells him to do.

Aaron Quitmeyer, DDS

Dr. Quitmeyer is a board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who maintains a full-scope private practice in Harrisonburg, VA. He earned his D.D.S. from the University of Minnesota and received his training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery from the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia. He served in the United States Navy Dental Corps for 10 years following dental school. Dr. Quitmeyer served as the Associate Program Director for Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD where he developed a passion for virtual surgical planning utilizing the latest digital technologies to provide the highest quality surgical treatments. Dr. Quitmeyer continues this passion in his private practice where he has a special interest in the integration of digital technology and dental implant reconstruction.
