This session discusses the concepts and advantages of perioperative, multi-modal, preventative analgesia. Attendees will be able to take back some key applications that can be utilized in their daily practices.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Apply concepts of perioperative, preventative, multi-modal, opioid-sparing analgesia to daily practice.
- List perioperative, preventative, multi-modal, opioid-sparing analgesia regimens available for use by the oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
- Recognize challenges in achieving analgesia in patients with chronic pain.

Dr. Ruba Khader is a private practice Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon practicing in Janesville, Wisconsin. Prior to joining private practice, she spent the majority of her professional career in academia as a faculty member as well as residency program director. She continues to speak locally and has an incredible opportunity to teach staff daily at her office. She is also fortunate to be able to mentor students from the near by Marquette School of Dental Medicine who are hoping to join an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program in the near future. Dr. Khader has published her work in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and also serves as a reviewer for the journal. She has a specific interest in managing the medically complex patients, as well as improving patients' pain outcomes.
