Resident Wellness Webinar: Navigating Mental Health as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

Surgeons face significant mental health pressures, and residents may be especially vulnerable as they navigate the demands of training, clinical responsibility and the transition into independent practice. This complimentary 60-minute live webinar will examine factors contributing to mental health challenges among surgeons, including the impact of adverse or unexpected patient outcomes and the experience known as second victim syndrome. Discussions will highlight how these challenges can affect confidence, health and career development - particularly for residents early in their surgical careers. Participants will gain practical insights into building resilience and protecting their well-being.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  1. Provide a space to allow discussion of negative feelings surgeons may experience due to the stress of their career, being a caregiver to patients and poor patient outcomes.
  2. Discuss how to better manage difficult situations.

This webinar is complimentary for AAOMS Members only and is not eligible for CE credit.
