Resident Wellness Webinar: Secrets to Finding Happiness in Work
Part 2 of the wellness webinar series will focus on the importance of finding happiness in work. Happiness is a state of well-being and contentment. Residents in surgery can experience high levels of stress that can affect their state of well-being. This 60-minute webinar will review what happiness means, how to achieve greater happiness and the overall importance of loving work.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Review the importance of finding happiness in one’s work.
- Discuss how changing habits and focusing on one’s strengths can improve happiness.
- Describe how to enhance one’s work experience.

James O. Pawelski, PhD
James O. Pawelski, PhD, is Professor of Practice and Director of Education in the Positive Psychology Center and Adjunct Professor of Religious Studies in the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania. Since 2005, he has served as Founding Director of Penn’s Master of Applied Positive Psychology program, where he teaches courses on positive interventions, the humanities and human flourishing and for which he has received the Liberal and Professional Studies Award for Distinguished Teaching in Professional Graduate Programs. He also teaches an undergraduate course on The Pursuit of Happiness and is a member of the Provost’s Wellness Working Group and the Provost’s Wellness Advisory Group.
